Timing matters more than most producers realise

Scheme membership runs to the compliance year, and your new scheme has to register you with the regulator before it begins. Leaving it late usually means either paying two schemes or waiting another full year to move. Is switching compliance scheme complicated?

In practice you give notice to your current scheme and we take care of the rest, including the registration transfer and the data handover. Most of the effort sits with us rather than with you.

The part worth getting right is your data. We review your tonnage figures and category splits during the desktop audit so nothing is carried across incorrectly.

Will there be a gap in my compliance?

There should not be. Your registration moves from one compliance year to the next, so as long as the timing is managed properly you remain covered throughout. This is why we recommend starting the conversation before the deadline rather than close to it.

What do I need from my current scheme?

Check your membership terms for the notice period, as this varies between schemes. You will also want copies of the data you have submitted, your registration details and any evidence documentation. We will tell you exactly what to request, and we can help you word the notice if that is easier.

Do I need to re-register with the Environment Agency?

Not personally. Your scheme registers you on your behalf, so when you move, your new scheme submits your registration for the following compliance year. You keep your producer registration number.

Can I move my battery and packaging obligations too?

Yes, and it usually makes life easier. These obligations are assessed separately from WEEE, so producers often end up with several providers and several sets of deadlines. Bringing them together means one point of contact and one reporting schedule.

What does it cost to switch?

There is no charge for the desktop audit or the quotation. Your ongoing costs depend on the tonnage you place on the market, the categories involved and whether you need collections, so we set those out clearly before you commit to anything.
